Reports: Eddie George to take over as Tennessee State head coach

Heisman Trophy-winning running back Eddie George will become the next head coach at Tennessee State, multiple outlets reported Sunday.George, 47, played at Ohio State before beginning a nine-year NFL career. He appears set to succeed Rod Reed, who will coach the Tigers in their season-ending game Sunday against Southeast Missouri.Reed is in his 11th season at Tennessee State. He has not announced plans to leave the school, and the university hasn’t said anything about his future. Still, it appears the tenure of Reed, who enters Sunday’s game with a 58-60 record, is about to end.George hasn’t been a college coach. Neither was Pro Football Hall of Fame member Deion Sanders when Jackson State, another Historically Black College and University, hired him as head coach last year.George played four seasons at Ohio State (1992-95) and won the Heisman after a spectacular senior year in which he ran for 1,927 yards and added 417 receiving yards. He scored 25 touchdowns.
